Ben from France came to visit

Blue recycle bin outside my house in Gatineau

Canada is an environment friendly country. In Malaysia, i will throw rubbish in one big rubbish bin without classify them. Well, they are garbage and waste to me and who cares about recycle anyway. At first, i have really hard time sorting out which one to go to the bin. Here, i have to put aside empty egg tray, milk box, juice box, plastic container etc and throw them in a blue recycle bin as picture shown above.

Sly and his friend, Ben (They were talking in french, only french and little english)

Sly's friend, Ben came to visit us with his gf last weekend. I tot they will like to have some chinese breakfast when they reach my house on sat morning. I make fried rice with waxed pork sausage, chinese# lap cheong and black pepper chicken. hee.. black pepper chicken is not so chinese anyway. Ben was kinda lost on his way, thus we finished the food without waiting for these french couple :)

Ingredients for fried rice
1 cup of Thai fragrance rice (better with overnight rice)
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp cooking/vegetable oil
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 small onion, chopped
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp of soy sauce
1 stalk of scallion, chopped
1 roll of lap cheong
1 tsp Lee Kum Kee chicken bouillon powder (dissolve in hot water become liquidise)
3 dashes white pepper powder
salt to taste

Method
Heat up a wok with oil. Add garlic and fry until aromatic, follow by lap cheong and onion. Stir fry until they are half cooked. Add in the rice and stir well with the ingredients. Add dark soy sauce, soy sauce, white pepper powder, chicken bouillon powder and continue to stir the fried rice for a couple of minutes.
Make a "hole" in the middle of the fried rice and pour the beaten eggs in the hold. Wait for 30 seconds and then mix the egg with the fried rice. Leave it for 30 seconds and continue to stir-fry. Dish out and serve hot. then sprinkle with the scallion on top of the fried rice.

Ingredients for black pepper chicken
1/2 pound of chicken breast (cut into small pieces)
2 tbsp of cooking oil
1 medium onion (cut into small square pieces)
1 small green and red bell pepper (cut into small square pieces)
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 tbsp Lee Kum Kee black pepper sauce

Method
Marinate the chicken with the black pepper sauce, 1 clove of garlic for 10 minutes. Heat up a wok and add in the cooking oil. Add in the chopped garlic and onions stir-fry until aromatic or turn light brown. Add in the chicken meat and stir fry until the chicken is half done. Then add in the green and red pepper, continue to stir fry until the the chicken the red/green pepper is well cook.
i like my black pepper chicken a bit gloppy thus i add in a 1/4 cup of water. Stir fry for another minute and then serve with steam rice. yummy...

For dinner, we went to The Works for some authentic Canadian food, burger!! It was packed on Saturday night and we have to wait for the seats for 45 minutes. Can you imagine we have to wait almost 1 hour for only burger?!!
Then after our big meal, we went strolling around the parliament.

Famous Canadian restaurant, selling only burger
We were looking at the menu while waiting for the seats for another 15 minutes

While waiting for our burger, we ordered the onion rings with hot spicy and bbq sauce

Getting chill~ uuh.. wanton recipe

it's 10 degrees this morning. malaysia weather can never drop down to this level.
i have been on my cereal diet for weeks now, not that i like it that way... anyway, i need to have something different, but what? oh, how i wish i can go out and buy hokkien mee for breakfast :(
i called home the other day and my mum laughed when i told her that i cooked almost every dinner. ya, i am a princess at home and i never cooked for meals (~yesterday, okay stop singing that song already)

i make some wanton today and going to have dry wanton mee for dinner. do check out for my own recipe (these ingredients are all i have in the fridge, that's why) *blushed*

Fried wanton and Malaysian wanton mee

Ingredients (4 serving)
1. 1/2 package wonton skin (bought this from 168 market at china town)
2. 1 tbs sesame oil
3. 1 tbs soy sause
4. 1 b minced chicken (or lean pork)
5. 1 pinch ground pepper
6. 3 cloves garlic, mashed
7. 1 sprig celery, finely chopped
8. 1 pinch of salt
9. 1 tbs oyster sause
10. 1 egg
11. some water to seal the wanton skin (some sites advise to seal with egg/corn flour but water works just the same)

These are the ingredients to make wanton

1. put the filling in the centre of the wanton skin
2. dip some water along 2 sides of the skin, as to glue the skin like the 2nd picture
3. then press the middle of the wanton to make the 2 corners meet. dip some water to glue the corner together.

the wanton serve better after putting them in the fridge

i had wanton in the soup with celery for lunch.

yummy, i love my wanton...

Drinking water from the taps?

Drinking water straight from the taps is a big no no in Penang. well, since young i have been taught to only drink boiled water. So the first day in Canada, i only drink boiled water from the electric kettle :s (ya, very "sam pat")
After much persuasion, i am convinced :) the water actually taste pretty good from the taps.

I started to miss my mum's cooking. There is this Chinese saying, you will not be full if you don't take rice :p see how important rice is for Chinese people.

So, i cooked some simple dishes for dinner. 3 dishes and 1 soup.. uh, soo chinese.
1. Herbal Chicken Soup
2. Potatoes with minced chicken
3. Red pepper with sliced chicken
4. Egg with Onion
5. Basmati rice

Speaking of food, check out what i have in the fridge.

Haagen ice cream and frozen pizza

This is the electric can opener, have to figure out how to use it (ya, very "sam pat")

Thanks to Ruenn and Immy for their thoughtful gift, i have the herbal chicken soup

Potential homemaker :p (yap tak choi fong, chut tak teng tong)

The dishes taste as good as they looked, haha.. self praise

All by myself, dun want to be

Good friends and parents sending me off at Penang airport on the 090909

Finally i touched down Maple country on the 090909. Nice number to launch my new life, isn't it? I traveled on the 090909 from Penang (AirAsia, everyone can fly) to Hong Kong, then transit Vancouver (Air Canada) to Ottawa. I reached Ottawa on the 090909, amazing how the difference of time and space on the other part of the world. I am now 12 hours back from Malaysia... interesting.

The weather on the first night was about 14 degrees. quite cold for a Malaysian girl to experience it. anyway, little me still manage to go through that, it's like weather at Cameron highland, no big deal.

HongKong airport, boarding flight to Vancouver

First night, i had nothing for dinner, didn't feel hungry at all. maybe i am too excited about the new move, maybe i am stressed, no idea. i had medication from Hong Kong airport for my heart burn (Chinese translation: wind in my stomach). Luckily i manage to get some sleep on the flight, haha.. too much sleep i would say, some people would be soo jealous of the gift/ability i have got, to be able to sleep any where, yes, literally any where.

See, i told you i can sleep basically everywhere

Waking up for food, like one pink animal
Oh, i watched 3 movies on board and my brain was "vacant", imagine how boring i was

Reaching Vancouver airport

My welcoming present from Sly (Coffee maker and coffee powder)

The aftermath of pehsan's invasion

The next morning, i make myself a simple lunch (toaster bread with peanut and strawberry jam) and i cooked frozen pizza for dinner. Canadian eat a lot of frozen food. i went shopping at Loblaws (hypermarket similar as Tesco or Giant or Carefour). There is one whole section of frozen food, imagine something like women clothes section :s
This was really a new cooking experience for me. Sly making fun of me cooking pizza with toaster oven and making tea in coffee carafe.

Toasted bread with peanut and strawberry jam, served with freshly brewed coffee

The pizza can barely fit in the toaster oven, hahaha..

Nothing wrong to make tea in the coffee kettle
